Benue Government To Select New Ochi'doma

The Benue State Government has set 30th December 2021 for the selection of a new Och’Idoma and chairman Idoma Tradition Council to replace Elias Ikoyi Obekpa who passed since October. State Governor Samuel Ortom announced this at a meeting with stakeholders from the Benue South Senatorial district in the Government House Makurdi. The Governor stated that the new date was arrived at in line with the Benue State Chieftaincy law which stipulates that a new paramount leader should be selected three months after demise of the previous one. He then directed the people of Benue South to convene a meeting of all stakeholders on December 15th, 2021 which should be attended by all, irrespective of party affiliations to discuss and determine a suitable replacement for the late Och’Idoma. Unilorin has expelled student who beat his project supervisor, reports confirmed that the verdict was handed down by the Student Disciplinary Committee where Salaudeen was arraigned on Monday. The student was alleged to had attacked his lecturer in her office because she refused to help him over his failure to do the mandatory Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES). UK Congratulate Soludo On His Emergence As Winner Of Anambra Governorship Election

The United Kingdom has congratulated Professor Charles Soludo on his emergence as winner of the November 6 gubernatorial election in Anambra State. This felicitation was contained in a British High Commission statement titled, UK Statement On Anambra Governorship Election. In it's official reaction to the poll, the UK also hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that the election results released early on Wednesday are consistent with the results obtained through the civil society Parallel Vote Tabulation process carried out by YIAGA Africa Speaking after the election, the British High Commissioner, Catriona Laing, said, 'Credible and inclusive elections are fundamental to Nigeria's democratic growth. The UK further encouraged INEC and all stakeholders to continue improving the electoral system and to ensure meaningful participation of young people, women and citizens generally in the democratic process.

Senate President Calls For Full Autonomy Of Local Government Administration In Nigeria

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan has renewed calls for the full autonomy of local government administration in Nigeria, to enable them attend to many of the rural challenges facing the country. Lawan said this when he formally declared open, this year's Local Government Economics Summit in Abuja, with the “Local Government System: Resilience for Sustainable Development”. According to the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, who was represented by Senator Ibrahim Danbaba, Nigeria may not be able to deal sufficiently with many of its challenges at the grassroots, unless it deliberately guarantees full autonomy for local government councils. Some of the local challenges have manifested in the form of banditry and kidnapping in the country.
