Over 3000 Inmates Still At Large - Aregbesola

Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has said that 3,906 inmates who escaped from various custodial centres in the country which came under attack, are still at large. The Minister disclosed this during a media briefing organised by the Presidential Communication Media Team at the State House, Abuja on Thursday November 11. Aregbesola said only 984 inmates have been recaptured out of the 4,369 inmates who escaped from the centres from 2020 till date. The Minister further revealed that biometrics of all custodial inmates in the country had been taken, and it is expected it would help in tracking and rearresting the inmates who escaped following a collaboration with the International Police (INTERPOL).

Kwara State Polytechnic Expells 29 Students For Examination Malpractice

  29 students of the Kwara State, Polytechnic, Ilorin have been expelled by the school management for examination malpractice. This was contained in a press statement issued and signed by the polytechnic's Principal Assistant Registrar, Opadiran Oluwakemi, on behalf of the Registrar, Kolawole Akande. According to the statement, the expulsion of this students is in line with the provisions in the review of the Student's Information and Regulations Handbook 2019. The Governing Council of the institution considered the report of the Academic Board in respect of the case and approved their immediate expulsion. The majority of the affected students are from the Institute of Engineering, (IOT). Also in the statement, the affected students are advised to comply strictly with the directive, to avoid litigation  

Government Trained Doctors Should Serve For Nine Years Before Considering To Relocate - Ngige

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has proposed that medical personnel including doctors trained by the government should be made to serve the country for at least nine years before they can consider relocating to another country. Ngige said this on Wednesday, November 10, while speaking at the 2022 Budget Defence of his Ministry at the House of Representatives. Thousands of Nigerian medical practitioners every year relocate to other countries where they would offer their services for better remuneration and working conditions. Speaking on the brain drain during the budget defence, Ngige said to check the alarming bra drain, medical workers trained by the government should be made to sign a bond that would ensure they do not leave the country at will after receiving training for free at public expense.

Police Raid Illegal Training Camp Of a Merchant Navy

The Nigeria Police Force in Lagos State has raided an illegal training camp of a Merchant Navy located in Ogidu, Sand Field Area and arrested the Commanding Officer, one Sunday Dakara, aged 47, alongside one hundred and seven other suspects currently in training. The Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, while parading the suspects and the various exhibits recovered from them, explained that the arrest was made possible through credible intelligence gathered on their activities. According to the Commissioner Of Police, the Merchant Navy has since been outlawed by the Nigerian Federal Government. The suspects, he explained, will soon be prosecuted in court. He warned anyone operating similar illegal outfits in any part of the state to close it. The CP also called on members of the public with useful information about anyone operating a clandestine military outfit or training camp to inform the police for urgent necessary action.

Bandits Attack Kastina Communities, 11 Killed, 13 Injured

At least 11 people have been killed after bandits in their numbers, armed with sophisticated weapons, attacked several communities in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State. Witnesses told newsmen that upon their arrival late on Tuesday night, the bandits shot sporadically into the air before going house by house in search of their victims. The bandits are said to have operated in not less than five villages within the council. Locals say, during the night raid, 13 people were also injured and several houses burnt down as the bandits operated from dusk till the wee hours of Wednesday. Confirming the incident, police authorities in the state disclosed that the communities attacked included Katoge and Yanturaku.
